Samsung’s US entry-level Blu-ray player, the BD-P1400, is being sold-off at a record low for the format by amazon.com. Now priced at 270 dollars, the machine (which offers 1080p video, upscales DVD and is compatible with Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD) becomes the first BD player to break the 300 dollar barrier.
The Blu-ray camp knows it has to compete against HD DVD in the price stakes, but has been relatively slow to react to HD DVD players selling for less than 100 dollars through some US retail outfits.
