Fujitsu exits plasma TV business

January 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

Fujitsu is to abandon its TV business and exit consumer electronics altogether. The company, one of the earliest plasma pioneers, blamed its exit on declining profitability in the sector. Part of the brand’s strategy to avoid the price wars which have devalued the flatscreen business worldwide has been to court and supply screens exclusively to the custom installation market. This strategy has clearly run its course.
The company says it will shutter all its plasma business interests outside of Japan by March.
In a statement the company concluded: “During the past several years, the pricing and profitability of this segment has compressed beyond the point which our company could realize a satisfactory return on investment.”
