Business as usual on HD format frontline

January 15th, 2008 · No Comments

US AV retailers have shrugged off claims by the Blu-ray Disc Association that the HD format war is over. A survey by trade title Home Media magazine has found the retail landscape is pretty much unchanged following Warner’s pre-CES bombshell. “Unless one format drops out, it’s business as usual,” says Best Buy spokesperson Brian Lucas, adding that the retailer will continue to stock and promote both formats. He says that best Buy is responsible to its customers and not studio decisions.
Steve Caldero, of long-standing AV retailer Ken Cranes says the trade still has a responsibility to support both formats, since several major studios still exclusively support the HD DVD format.
