Japanese Yakusa helps Sharp build LCD factory

January 24th, 2008 · No Comments

Osaka Government officials have warned Sharp that a company with mob ties has been subcontracted to help build its ambitious new state-of-the-art LCD factory, under construction in Sakai, Osaka. Officials warned the CE giant that machinery leasing company Daiwa Juki has been closely linked with Yamaguchi-gumi, one of Japan’s largest and most feared crime syndicates.
Prefectural guidelines prohibit organized crime from taking part in public projects. While the Sharp factory isn’t a public construction project, it is set to receive 15 billion yen in local subsidies. Daiwa Juki is on a list of organizations Government contractors are ‘requested’ not to work with.
