Toshiba kicks off high-profile HD DVD ad campaign

January 28th, 2008 · No Comments

Is the HD format war over? Not according to Toshiba, which has booked a 30-second commercial slot for to be screened in the US during the XLII Super Bowl on February 3. The high-profile slot will promote the company’s newly price-cut HD DVD players and is expected to cost the company around 2.7m dollars. The move is in line with the company’s current strategy of advertising HD DVD as part of NBC’s Sunday Night Football programming.
disc association spokesman Andy Parsons says: “I certainly admire their chutzpah. They can certainly choose to do as they please with their marketing. Running a Super Bowl ad is not likely to convince consumers that HD DVD will win the format war.”
