PS3 will dominate Xbox 360 in 2008, predicts EA

February 5th, 2008 · No Comments

Leading video games publisher Electronic Arts continues to be Sony’s biggest PlayStation 3 advocate, predicting that PS3 sales in Europe will eclipse those of the Xbox 360 during 2008. EA thinks that the Sony console will shift upwards of 6 millions units in Europe this year, compared to an estimated 2.5 million units for the Xbox 360. It admits that the battle for North America will be a tighter contest. The games publisher expects Microsoft and Sony will sell upwards of 5.5 million units each.
Nintendo, however, will continue to rule the roost in overall console sales. EA says Ninty will ship around 13 million Wiis during 2008.
Meanwhile, Sony has announced a Satin Silver edition of the PS3 for its local Japanese market. The Ceramic White edition introduced into Japan last year, and heading for the US this summer, is expected in Europe before the end of the year. Rival Microsoft, in an attempt to woo casual Japanese games players, will introduce the cheaper Xbox Arcade edition of the 360 into that territory from March.
