Plasma TV sales hit record high, but revenues decline

February 13th, 2008 · No Comments

Is plasma a declining force in the display market? Not according to data by Quixel Research. It reveals that US sales of plasma screens hit an all-time quarterly high during the final months of 2007. Revenues however dipped 19 per cent YOY as price declines hit the sector. Quixel believes that a shortage of 1080p models restricted the opportunities for growth, although 50-inch screens outsold 42-inch models. Quixel estimates that the total value of the HD TV market in the US during 2007 was worth 28.7 billion dollars, of which plasma represents 20 per cent.
The company also notes that LCD TV sales rose a massive 74 per cent during the same period; it expects LCD TV sales to triple in volume by 2010.
