Apple warns of iPod slowdown

February 25th, 2008 · No Comments

Is the bottom falling out of the iPod market? Apple seems to think so. The company has dramatically cut its 2008 order forecast for NAND flash memory, and has warned suppliers that growth will slow. Market analyst iSuppli immediately slashed its global flash memory forecast as a result of Apple’s announcement.
In 2007, the iPod maker was the third biggest buyer of NAND chips, spending 1.2 billion dollars on the devices. Any dip in demand is certain to wrong-foot the two biggest NAND memory makers, Samsung and Toshiba; both have been ramping up supply. Faltering consumer spending in the US seems to be behind Apple’s reasoning.
