50 million Blu-ray players online by 2012

February 29th, 2008 · No Comments

With no dedicated Blu-ray players offering internet interactivity at the moment, it seems a stretch to suggest that BD Live players will be the biggest selling web-enabled devices by 2012. Yet that’s the prediction of market research operation Multimedia Intelligence. It predicts that 50 million BD Live players will be in circulation by the target date.
“Blu-Ray equipment could become the largest volume segment of IP-enabled consumer devices even sooner than 2012,” suggests Mark Kirstein, MI’s president. “The end of the format war between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD promises to accelerate shipment volume of Blu-Ray DVD equipment.”
