Samsung scales back LCD expectations, talks with Sony ongoing

March 28th, 2008 · No Comments

Deteriorating trading conditions worldwide have prompted a cautious Samsung to scale back its growth projections for the year. The world’s biggest LCD TV maker says it now expects global sales to increase by 10 per cent, down from an earlier projection of 15 per cent. Yun Jong-yong, Samsung Electronics Chief Executive, blamed: “rising oil prices and the continued fluctuation of exchange rates spurred by the U.S. subprime woes.”
Samsung has announced a net profit of 7.43 trillion won for the last financial year. Currently the Korean giant is in talks with Sony regarding a further investment in 8th generation production lines to produce super-size LCD panels. The company says it expects a positive outcome to its talks.
