More than 10 million US households now have a hi-def disc player, according to a new report from media analysts Interpret. The figure includes both BD and HD DVD players. Blu-ray awareness is also up, with 60 per cent admitting to having heard about the format. When it comes to the early adopter crowd (men between 18 and 34), awareness rises to 76 per cent.
The same report puts HD disc penetration in the UK at 9 per cent, the same as in Japan. Germany and France lag behind at 4 per cent.
Interestingly, the UK has the highest DVD penetration of any major country, at 92 per cent. This compares to just 82 per cent in Japan.
