The world’s number 2 maker of LCD panels, Korean-giant LG Display, has posted a record quarterly operating profit of 881 billion won. Making the figure even more remarkable is the fact that the result follows on from a record loss of 208 billion won the year before.
LG Display chief financial officer Jeong Ho-young confirmed that the result was “better than expected”.
The flatpanel industry is predicting a red-hot 2008, fueled by the shift from analogue to digital broadcasting in the US and major sporting events such as the Beijing Olympics and Euro 2008.
