April 14th, 2008 · No Comments

High definition TV is beating out IPTV in the battle of the next-gen TV services. According to UK market analyst Informa Telecoms & Media, more than 44 million homes will have access to hi-def TV by the end of 2008, rising to 179 million by 2012.
According to a study of the US market, HD viewing per household begins to rise dramatically when more than 20 channels are available in the format.
IPTV currently lags someway behind HD in terms of consumption. Currently only around 14 million households are signed up to IPTV services, according to Parks Associates. However interest if growing fast. IPTV usage leapt 250 per cent between 2006 and 2007, with growth expected at 52.5 per cent annually through to 2012.
