US retailer lines up to buy Denon and Marantz

April 15th, 2008 · No Comments

Mainstream US CE retailer Best Buy is apparently in the running to buy a large chunk of D&M Holdings, owner of high-end AV brands Marantz, Denon, Boston Acoustics, Snell and Escient. Holding company RHJ International SA/NV is auctioning its 49 per cent stake in D&M, and has lined up four potential suitors: the aforementioned US retailer, Merrill Lynch, Bain Capital LLC and Advantage Partners LLP. A second tendering process will shake down the list in May.
The news follows the revelation that DVD rental king Blockbuster has made a one billion dollar bid to buy out Best Buy’s retail rival Circuit City. Blockbuster went public with the news after Circuit City “failed to provide due diligence necessary to allow Blockbuster to make a definitive proposal.”
