How big will your Blu-ray library be in 2011

April 24th, 2008 · No Comments

Not very, if a new report from Bernstein Research is to be believed. The company says that Blu-ray will achieve 25 per cent penetration in US homes in just three years, predictably fueled by a drop in the cost of individual Blu-ray discs and a reduction in dedicated player prices.
Yet while Bernstein calculates that BD revenue will be worth 260 million dollars to Hollywood this year, leaping to 4.24 billion dollars in 2011, the research assumes that the average Blu-ray owner will only have a library of between 6-10 BD discs. However, this will still be enough to grow home video coffers by around 2.4 per cent over the next three years.
