Samsung and Panasonic rush to launch first BD Live player

April 24th, 2008 · No Comments

Samsung is to challenge old rival Panasonic in the race to launch the first dedicated BD Live Blu-ray player. The two companies first went head-to-head in the global rush to release a dedicated player, and now they’re competing again to introduce players compatible with both Bonus View (Profile 1.1) and BD Live (profile 2). Panasonic is targeting a June launch for its DMP-BD50, an Ethernet-equipped update on its BD30 model. Samsung says it will launch its fourth generation BD-P1500 at the same time. Neither company is talking price.
The Samsung player will sport a USB input for easy playback of music files. Panasonic’s player is compatible with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HS MA. Samsung says that it will upgrade its BD-P1500 to the DTS lossless codec via a firmware patch later in the year. So which one are you planning to buy?
