In a surprise move, NBC has jettisoned Heroes writers/co-executive producers Jesse Alexander and Jeph Loeb. The news comes as the show struggles in its third season, as viewers tire of its convoluted plotlines. Ratings are down on average 18 per cent this season.
Rather than be seen as a positive move, Loeb’s departure in particular has been greeted with almost unanimous despair by comic fans, but it remains unclear just how much of the ongoing and derivative X-Men riffing stems from creator Tim Kring or his creative team.
NBC is also keen to cut costs, which are thought to have been spiraling out of control. Heroes has a budget of $4million per episode.
