Why else would it have ordered the families of its overseas employees to fly back to Japan, lest they fall victim to a (seemingly non-existent) Avian Flu pandemic. Weird as it may seem, Panasonic’s Akira Kadota confirms that in December the CE giant ordered the families of those working in China and parts of Asia to hot foot it back to Osaka to avoid a possible outbreak of bird flu. Kadota says the recall was ‘proactive’ and issued to combat any sudden outbreak.
To date, the deadly H5N1 strain has killed just over 250 people since 2003, but no one has been talking up a pandemic recently that I’m aware of.
