Panasonic predicts bird flu pandemic and panics overseas staff to return to Japan

It’s no secret that Sony ran an X-Files division back in the Nineties, charged with looking for possible avenues of paranormal product development, including extra sensory perception, remote viewing and Qi (metabolic) energy. Now I’m beginning to wonder if rival Panasonic has its own crystal ball division. Why else would it have ordered the families of its overseas employees to fly back to Japan, lest they fall victim to a (seemingly non-existent) Avian Flu pandemic. Does the Japanese giant know something the rest of us don’t?
Weird as it may seem, Panasonic’s Akira Kadota confirms that in December the CE giant ordered the families of those working in China and parts of Asia to hot foot it back to Osaka to avoid a possible outbreak of bird flu. Kadota says the recall was ‘proactive’ and issued to combat any sudden outbreak.
To date, the deadly H5N1 strain has killed just over 250 people since 2003, but no one has been talking up a pandemic recently that I’m aware of. Pictured above is a scanning electron microscope (SEM) image of the Avian Flu Virus from 3DScience.com. If you see anything that looks similar coming your way, run…
In related news, I had a chat with a long-standing PR chum at Panasonic UK to see if any of the team were affected by the company’s recently announced plans to shed 15,000 jobs as part of a global credit-crunch inspired restructuring. The good news is that no one in the UK is affected, and that the company continues to do good business.
