Samsung promises massive investment spend

The Samsung Group intends to bounce back from the tax evasion and corruption investigations which have dogged it for months with its biggest-ever investment plan. During 2008, it says investment will rise 24 per cent, to 27.8 trillion won. Beneficiaries include Samsung Electronics, which will receive 5.3 trillion won. Shares rose on the news.

JVC shuts Scottish LCD TV factory, Japan to follow

JVC is to shutter its TV production facility in Scotland as part of its global restructuring campaign. JVC Manufacturing UK LTD (JMUK) employs 300 staff and has been making TVs (originally CRT then LCD) since 1987, for both the UK and European markets. It will cease production at the end of July and initiate company liquidation procedures around September.
