Reception problems have hampered the terrestrial trial service of ITV, C4 and Five. According to the ITV technology group: “Before the trial commenced it was anticipated that all broadcasters would transmit at the same power levels for all channels. Due to some interference issues, the ITV/Channel 4/Five multiplex power had to be reduced to stop interference with existing DTT signals in certain areas. This was carried out to make sure we were working within the parameters of our Ofcom test and development license.
Although all trialists are within the transmission area, some may be experiencing problems if they don’t have a good aerial installation.”
ITV helpfully suggests making sure that all aerials are pointing towards Crystal Palace and that all down leads and cables between wall sockets and the set top box are of as high a quality as possible. If viewers still need to boost the signal, ITV suggests that the booster should be as near to the aerial as possible to limit boosting noise that can be introduced from down leads.
