Berlin, 3 August 2006 – Once again the IFA 2006 will be synonymous with outstanding products and solutions in the field of high definition technology. The slogan in Hall 26 is “TV in new dimensions“, referring to a theme of overwhelming importance for the industry, high definition (HD), which provides viewers with pictures of unprecedented quality and opens up a vast commercial potential for the industry.
High definition television was already one of the most fascinating topics at the IFA 2005, where exhibitors and visitors were able to witness the breakthrough into a new world of television images. Now the IFA 2006 is presenting HDTV and high definition media in Europe as a commercially available platform with a rapidly increasing range of media and terminals. (more…)

Never before have there been as many exciting broadcast and digital media innovations, technology premieres and product highlights on display under the historic Radio Tower of Berlin as during IFA 2006.

• At almost every booth, the large-screen, high-definition home cinema will be at center stage this year.

• HD-DVD and the Blu-ray Disc, two optical disc formats for high-definition packaged media, will be launched in Europe.

Berlin, 24 August 2006 – This is the year that the hard disk will be marking its jubilee. 50 years ago the first hard disk came on the market. In 1956 the first generation of magnetic mass storage media arrived, capable of storing five megabytes and costing 50,000 dollars. Nowadays small devices storing 5 gigabytes, a thousand times as much, can be bought for very little. Storage capability has increased vastly, and several hundred gigabytes are almost commonplace.
